The Locals Are Not Giving Up Teluk Benoa. The fight between Governor Mangku Pastika and the voice of the people regarding the reclamation plan of Tanjung Benoa has been going on for quite some time now.
In August 2013, the biggest development project to-date was announced, a multi-million dollar investment plan
to build an artificial islands in South Bali under the name of Benoa Reclamation Project. With 50 more 800+ rooms hotels predicted to be constructed by 2017 and Indonesia’s President urging to increase tourism numbers on the island.
Activists from different NGOs, artists, students along with a long list of local communities in Bali have been doing everything in their power to make sure that this plan, to turn yet another area in Bali into a concrete giant ‘tourism playground’ would not happen.
